Good News: Our God Reigns!
When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers… How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!” (Psalm 8:3-4, Isaiah 52:7)
Warm greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Happy New Year!
The birth of Jesus Christ and his survival as an infant were a strong blow that significantly defeated and silenced God’s enemies; indeed Our God Reigns! We will spend this year celebration this truth and good news, and exploring the same in many different dimensions – in personal and national life, and in the world and entire cosmos. The eighth Psalm reflects on that wide created order and zooms in to God’s care for human beings, and then ironically connects infants’ praising God with the downfall of God’s enemies; that is how wonderful our God is! Infant Jesus lived in times threatened by deadly Herod, but survived under the protection of God’s mighty hand. No circumstance or threat will challenge the reign of the King of kings and Lord of Lords.
Looking ahead, predictions have been made for different sectors in Vision Group’s Uganda In 2022 and elsewhere, somewhat covering Johnny Enlow’s seven mountains of influence and touching different national and international development goals. Predictions have been thrown off balance for the second year running due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and uncertainty still looms. People are mainly looking for what is going to happen in education, health and the general economy, and for us believers, it is important to seek God and hear from Him about these and other areas of life. In education, much has been talked about schools that will open and those that will not, students that will go back to school and those that will not, teachers that will go back to teach and those that will not; little has been talked about (the few) schools, students and staff who never stopped even during the lockdowns. There are lessons to learn, especially for our faith which should never take a holiday. In health, I look forward to the waning of COVID-19 by middle of the year 2022 by God’s healing hand.
Take some time this January to slow down from any rush or panic, be silent in God’s presence and receive the direction He is leading us into – the assurance and comfort, and the warnings and instructions He is giving us. In some political circles, someone said: ‘If you don’t unite and organize, you disintegrate and agonize.’ With all the surrounding uncertainties, I choose organize and start this year with an open mind, but open first and foremost to the God of heaven who holds the future. Look ahead with victory confidence and face those giants and mirages with this one firm statement in your heart: “Our God reigns!” God bless you all.
