Commissioned.
The LORD turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian's hand. Am I not sending you?” You then, my son, be strong… in Christ Jesus. (Judges 6:14, 2Tim 2:1-2)
You are warmly welcome to Kakumba Chapel!
Does God really have any assignment for you? Can he employ all the 34 million Ugandans, or all the 7 billion people on earth? Can he employ the genius and the novice, the white, the red and the black, the old, the young and the children – can he employ everyone? Yet when you think about Him, you will agree He can: God’s estate stretches across the whole earth, then extends to the sun and moon and all the planets near us, then to all the 100 billion burning stars in the our galaxy (our Sun is only one of those stars), then to the 200 billion other galaxies, each with its billions of stars! And beyond – we are yet to discover more. Job knew much less than we know today, yet he said of this Almighty God, “He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.” (Job 26:7). This is our God; and vast as His estate may be, yet He knows every detail, every nanometer – even ‘the very hairs of your head are all numbered’!
He found Gideon is his usual fright mode, looking down on his family and his clan when their tribe was impoverished and oppressed from every side by vicious raiding enemies. Gideon received a shocking announcement: “… Am I not sending you?” And God’s word is final in such matters. We find many such commissionings on the pages of the Bible, and Timothy received his too – Paul playing the role of his mentor. Gideon’s was national duty and leadership, which had to begin with spiritual revival, while Timothy’s was leadership in the Church. You too have been created for a divine purpose, and the Lord awaits your taking the assignment. Is it in your national duty, in your business, or in your family, or discussion group – think and listen, ask what the Lord requires of you. I find it an honour and a real joy to be in the service of this wonderful and great God!
Uganda is faced with many raiding enemies; among them are the perpetrators of grand corruption that denies the population of well deserved services. The salary deficiencies for health workers, teachers and university staff, the equipment deficiencies in our health centers and hospitals, planned yet undone roads and public buildings – and many other deficiencies – most of these should have been funded if the money is not stolen through bribes and kickbacks! Arise and pray; arise and be different; arise and speak out. What else burdens you? Do not see a task before you as impossible when God has stirred your heart to move in and do something. The God who call also equips, and He will be with you Himself throughout the work – for His glory.
God bless you.
