Mary Magdalene: “I Have Seen the Lord!” – John 20:18

You are warmly welcome! We especially welcome the Christian Women Fellowship as they lead us in the celebration of Mary Magdalene’s Day.

There are moments in life when everything seems to collapse at once—when the heart can no longer make sense of the silence from heaven. A notorious sinner may conclude he is beyond redemption; the disabled might feel left behind in the race of life; a wealthy household may descend into despair at the sudden death of its patriarch; even royals and dignitaries, once secure, are reduced to fugitives when power shifts unexpectedly. The tides of this world change swiftly, and many are left standing in the wreckage of their shattered hopes, wondering if the entire journey was in vain.

Such may have been the mood after Jesus' crucifixion. The Teacher, the Healer, the Hope of Israel—arrested, mocked, crucified, and laid in a tomb. His followers could have scattered in grief, nursing their dashed expectations and trying to salvage a future out of a broken past. But not Mary Magdalene.

When others walked away, Mary stayed. When the tomb was found empty and confusion clouded their minds, the disciples returned home. But Mary remained—weeping, waiting, hoping. Was it denial? Or was it something deeper—an unyielding, flickering hope that would not die? She had been the last to leave the cross… and now, she was the first to arrive at the tomb, and remained here when others left.

And then, it happened. Heaven met her tears. Angels spoke. But greater still—Jesus stood before her. Not as a bleeding, broken figure on a cross, but alive, radiant, victorious over death. At first, she did not recognize Him. But when He spoke her name—“Mary”—her heart exploded with joy. Her grief turned to gladness. Her night turned to morning. Her response was electric, immediate, breathless: “I have seen the Lord!”

Mary Magdalene became the first witness of the Resurrection, the first to declare the greatest news ever told. And this honor was not given to the strongest, nor to the most learned, but to the one who loved much and lingered long. She who once was possessed by seven demons now became heaven’s messenger of joy. From the pit to the pulpit—such is the power of Jesus to redeem.

Friend, in Christ there is hope beyond comprehension, grace without limit, and life after death—in every sense of the word. Whether your past is messy, your present confusing, or your future uncertain, come to Jesus. You need Him, and He loves you. He calls your name too. The words of this old song by Jaci Velasquez carry this important call:

Come as you are, don’t change a thing. Open your heart, He’ll walk right in.
Come as you are, No excuses. His love for you will never die.

God bless you all.
