Your Local Church Role

“‘The silver is mine and the gold is mine,’ declares the LORD Almighty. ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the LORD Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the LORD Almighty." (Hag 2:8-9)

You are warmly welcome! We are now in motion to reach higher goals spiritually and physically – the Kakumba Family Marathon was a successful testament. The next is around the corner, on 14 Dec 2024.

As well preached by Prof Sam Luboga, “count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Rom 6:11). As I meditated on what it means to be alive to God in Christ Jesus, it became clear that responsiveness is a key indicator. The Anatomy Professor explained that being dead mean being non-responsive to stimulus, while being alive means being responsive. It is a great test to check if you are fully alive to God, by checking if you respond to His voice, His instructions, His demands, His assignments. First, He calls us to acknowledge Him and believe in His Son our Saviour Jesus Christ, and many of us have responded. But that is not all He call us to – there is much more.

In this season when the specific project of finishing the Kakumba Chapel Hall Complex is upon us, we are reminded of building projects in the Bible for which prophets campaigned as passionately as they did for repentance. Poetic imagery and literary dramatic styles are employed to move hearts of believers to move forward with faith and build and complete God-ordained projects. Prophet Haggai arose at a time when the building of the second temple had stalled after the foundation and ground floor were finished, without a superstructure! The people had lost strength due to challenges internal and external. Here, they were running out of resources; and there, threats from enemies were rife. The prophet not only challenges the people to arise and build, but also assures them that the glory of the current project will be greater than that of the magnificent Temple of Solomon.

You have a role in your local church. You are a part of the body of Christ – and every part counts. Paul has reminded us in 1Cor 12:12-31 that each part is uniquely essential if the whole body is to function well. Now think about your responsiveness to the material support that God’s kingdom requires – in a wider sense; it may be reaching out with a compassionate hand to a child or student in need, or just the faithfulness with consistent tithes and offerings in church, or now putting in that extra effort for the construction project. Responsiveness is the key indicator that you are alive to God in Christ Jesus. A completed Chapel Hall complex will be for God’s greater glory by visual splendour and as a ministry center for youth and children in our community. May God bless you as you respond and support this noble cause.
