Saying No to Drugs
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. (Psalm 46:1, Prov 13:20)
You are warmly welcome!
It is important to make healthy choices, including taking care of our hearts, because it can help us to live better and possibly longer lives; taking care of our bodies honours God who created us and wants the best for our lives. He created us amazingly: your heart for example – did you know it circulates blood to the top of your head and to the tips of your finger and toes? The blood provides oxygen and energy to all of your cells and keeps you alive. Your heart, about the size of your two hands clasped together, beats about 100,000 times each day; your heart works harder than any other muscle in your body; each day your heart creates as much energy as can drive a car for about 32 kilometers; you heartbeat can change to match the music you are listening to.
What is better: a moment of pleasure or a lifetime of health? Even though being healthy has many advantages, some people may think it is better to have a moment of pleasure than a lifetime of health. When we make unwise choices to have that moment of pleasure, it may damage important organs in our bodies – it may damage our hearts! One thing that can damage your heart is taking drugs. Irregular heartbeat, heart infections and heart attacks are some of the problems that can result from taking drugs such as opium, kuber, shisha, banghi, heroin, cocaine, marijuana, or petrol. Many times youth attract one another to try out some drugs, but remember the wisdom of Proverbs 13:20 – the companion of fools will suffer harm!
Think about these five dangers: Drugs can make your immune system weaker, and you will be more likely to be sick. Drugs are addictive; the more you take, the more you want, and soon one becomes like a ‘prisoner’ to the drugs! Drugs hurt your body, your heart and your brain, such that response and sense for other things is affected and one responds much more to the drugs. Drugs can cause one to make bad and dangerous choices, including hurting oneself and others. Drugs can cause one to be dizzy and off-balance, even causing one to see and hear things that are not actually there!
Choose a lifetime of health, and honour the Lord God with your life. Sometimes the force pulling you to dangerous choices may be strong, but remember, God is our ever-present help at all times. When you decide to go the right way, He will give you the strength. Even when you need to tell friends that you do not agree with them or you do not want to do what they are doing, God will give you the strength. Honour the Lord your God as you guard you heart and enjoy a lifetime of health.
God bless you all.
