Grace upon Grace for Progress
“This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it.
For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then
you shall deal wisely and have good success.” (Josh 1:8)
Over the last week we had a Campus Blaze event that started hot on Wednesday, then got hotter, and then hottest on Friday, with kinetic praise and worship, moving gospel messages and more ministry through talented gospel artists. The Blaze was reaffirming the reign of God on the Hill of Kyambogo: just as Moses discovered and recognized God’s presence in the burning bush, and just as God’s awesome presence and power was revealed at Mount Carmel when fire gutted Elijah’s sacrifice, and just as John saw God’s face like the sun shining in all its brilliance, the Campus Blaze is both a call upon and a receiving of God’s glorious presence in our city. All the three – Moses, Elijah and John – had an insatiable desire for the utmost, and only God could satisfy; only in the w fiery revelations did they find what their hearts longed for, and were consequently commissioned into their highest vocations, serving God’s purpose among their generations.
As we reflect on grace for progress, today we find Joshua receiving instructions from God as a package to guide this new leader of Israel: he should make his way prosperous, deal wisely and have good success – the very things we desire even today, in whatever field of study or work. There are many obstacles that have been warned, especially the various noises in life. Campus students are in a sea of all sorts of people and must be careful to choose the right company. Bad company corrupts good morals! The kind that will be discussing how to cheat exams, or how to enjoy life’s pleasures (at the expense of constructive fellowships and investments), or how even the king of company that is loose and lets sexual immorality eat them up. The noises can be well dealt with if we apply our minds to the Word of the Lord.
So, Joshua is given the Book of the Law to meditate on it day and night and observe and do according to all that is written in it. It may seem illogical, but it works. That is how God’s Grace works: and as we read the Gospel, we find that for us today it begins with putting your faith in Jesus Christ, the Saviour – He is full of grace and truth. In keeping firm faith in Jesus Christ and meditating on God’s Word continually, you are able to navigate through this noisy world, progressing steadily to success both here and in the world to come. May you continually be captivated by the glory of God and serve and grow in Him always.
God bless you all.
