Build on the Rock
David sang … when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies: “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge… He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior – from violent people you save me.” (2Sam 22:1-3)
You are warmly welcome!
Two weeks are gone in this new term, which arrived with significant changes in our School Staff; some have been transferred away, while others have been brought in. We especially welcome the new Head Teacher of Kyambogo College, Mrs Helen Twongyeirwe and congratulate her upon this appointment. We continue to pray for God’s hand of comfort upon the family of the late Mrs Annie Tumwesigye, former Head Teacher who passed on towards the end of last term. I don’t know what happened at home – perhaps some of you have been shaken by other circumstances. Our country is shaken by many kidnaps and assassinations! Our hearts are always moved when such changes and losses come to us. Lovely psalms and spiritual songs have been written in response, by those who have gone through similar times:
Find rest my soul in Christ alone;
Know His power in quietness and trust
When the oceans rise and thunders roar …
I will be still and know You are God.
I am also reminded and encouraged by this song:
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale, My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.
Where do you stand when all other ground is sinking? In his gospel, Matthew brings us an important conclusion to a long sermon that Jesus preached: “everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock” (Matt 7:24). That house did not fall when the stormy rains came and the flood streams rose. But, on the other hand, the one who “does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand” and it fell with a great crash! Trust in the Lord. Listen to Him. Lean on Him and you will be secure even in the shakings.
Our opening verses are David’s ecstatic song when the Lord Almighty held and kept safe and secure from all his enemies; he names the Lord as Rock and Fortress – a Deliverer and Saviour. He is the same to all who call on Him even today. When you build on the Rock, you will never be disappointed.
God bless you all.
